Role Overview
The position of Application Analyst is integral to supporting and managing a range of essential software services that facilitate staff, student, and public-facing operations. Joining a close-knit and passionate team, you’ll play a critical role in enhancing and modernizing the University’s Information Technology operations.
As an Application Analyst, your key responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with your team to resolve complex operational challenges across various software services and modern technology platforms.
- Contributing to ITIL-aligned service delivery.
- Identifying opportunities for automation and streamlining service-related operations.
- Supporting the University’s strategic goals through effective IT solutions.
- Monitoring and measuring service performance in alignment with KPIs for proactive maintenance.
- Working closely with IT project teams, stakeholders, and customers across the service lifecycle.
- Maintaining comprehensive documentation for live services.
- Acting as a technical subject matter expert for various University software services.
Technologies and Systems
On a daily basis, you will focus on critical systems such as:
- Access control systems
- Virtual Learning Environment (including lecture capture)
- Student records systems
- Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
- Cloud Identity and Access Management (IAM)
- Low-code development platforms
You will also work with technologies such as OpenID/SAML, EntraID, PowerPlatform, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, IIS, Windows Server, PowerShell, and public cloud services like Azure, AWS, and Oracle Cloud.
Key Contributions
You will be instrumental in supporting the onboarding of new services, engaging with resource planning to ensure timely delivery of work packages, and driving Continual Service Improvement efforts. You will work closely with the Senior Application Analyst and other team members to ensure the efficient operation of systems and services.

Employment Conditions
The appointed candidate will typically be employed through BCU Support Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Birmingham City University. However, appointees with prior LGPS membership who wish to remain in the scheme can opt for direct employment by Birmingham City University.
