Role Overview
The Archives & Modern Manuscripts section, part of the Bodleian Libraries’ Special Collections, manages an extensive variety of archive material, including modern manuscripts and born-digital content.
In this role, you will contribute to the processing, preservation, and cataloguing of archive collections. Responsibilities will include actively assisting archivists in relocating materials, ensuring their safe transfer and storage, repackaging items, and updating collection records. You’ll also help with listing and indexing tasks using library systems. The position involves regular manual handling, working in storage areas, and occasionally driving a van. Additionally, you will support other team activities such as digital archive processing and reader services. Full training will be provided, and prior archive experience is not a requirement.
This is a full-time, 12-month fixed-term role. A satisfactory Basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and valid driving licence check will be required for the successful candidate.
About You
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organised individual who is comfortable working with original documents and managing sensitive information. Good general IT skills, including familiarity with spreadsheets and databases, are essential.
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team, and confident in managing their own workload. Strong communication skills, a flexible attitude, and a proactive approach to work will be advantageous.
