About the Role:
Birmingham City University (BCU), a vibrant and diverse institution in the heart of Birmingham, invites applications for the position of Lead Technical Architect within our IT Services team. As the Assistant Director IT for Strategy and Architecture, you will be a pivotal member of our senior IT leadership team. We seek an experienced manager with a solid background in digital technology to help drive significant transformation across our digital services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Architectural Design: Develop and maintain the University’s overall technical architecture to meet strategic objectives, covering the entire student lifecycle and associated business processes.
  • Team Management: Lead a small team of Solution Architects, Technical Architects, and Business Analysts to ensure that the architecture supports the operational needs of staff and students cost-effectively and securely.
  • Innovation and Change Management: Apply advanced prototyping and proof-of-concept techniques to introduce new processes and innovations.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • A good degree and postgraduate qualification in a relevant technical subject or equivalent experience.
  • Expertise in architectural processes and standards, and a deep understanding of IT systems across the ISO seven-layer model.
  • Proven leadership and management experience, familiar with change management methods.
  • Flexibility to work outside normal office hours as part of duty management and on-call arrangements, and undertake duties at various University campuses as needed.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for conferences and events.

Employment Details:
The appointed candidate will generally be employed through BCU Support Services Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Birmingham City University. Those with prior LGPS membership wishing to enter the LGPS scheme will be directly employed by the University.
