Position Overview:
The Associate Athletics Director for Business Intelligence & External Strategy will provide strategic leadership and vision to develop, implement, and manage data-driven initiatives across Virginia Tech Athletics. This role is vital in advancing data infrastructure, analytics, reporting systems, and generating actionable insights to inform key departmental decisions.

The Associate AD will lead efforts to integrate data across multiple units, including revenue operations, sport programs, fan engagement platforms, and operational systems. The goal is to optimize revenue, enhance resource allocation, and improve competitive performance. This role collaborates extensively with senior leadership, coaches, and administrative teams to transform complex datasets into strategic insights that drive planning, financial success, and operational efficiency.

Additionally, the position is pivotal in evaluating emerging economic trends within collegiate athletics, such as Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL), revenue sharing frameworks, media rights valuations, and fan monetization strategies. By addressing these evolving dynamics, the Associate AD will help ensure Virginia Tech Athletics remains at the forefront of major college athletics.

The position will supervise one full-time Director of Business Intelligence and report directly to senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and execution of business intelligence and analytics strategies.
  • Oversee the creation of analytics infrastructure, reporting systems, and data models to support department-wide goals.
  • Collaborate across units to integrate data from revenue streams, fan engagement platforms, and athletic programs to drive innovative solutions.
  • Provide actionable insights to guide financial planning, competitive strategies, and operational improvements.
  • Analyze emerging economic trends and strategies in collegiate athletics, including NIL, fan monetization, and media rights, and recommend approaches to maintain competitive positioning.
  • Supervise and guide the Director of Business Intelligence, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration within the analytics team.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Data Science, Sports Management, Economics, Information Systems, or a related field supplemented by relevant professional experience.
  • Significant experience in analytics, business intelligence, or strategic operations.
  • Proven expertise in managing large datasets and enterprise-level analytics initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience in sports, entertainment, higher education, or adjacent industries.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Business Analytics, Sports Management, Data Science, or an MBA.
  • Prior experience in an NCAA Division I “Power 4” collegiate athletics program.
  • Leadership experience managing analytics teams or business intelligence units.
  • Familiarity with fan engagement analytics, sports performance data integration, and revenue modeling in athletics.

Salary and Appointment Details:

  • Hours per week: 40 , including nights and weekends as required.
  • Salary: Commensurate with experience.
  • Appointment Type: Restricted.
  • Overtime Status: Exempt; not eligible for overtime.
