Adolescent Health Study (AHS)
Location: Remote working, with a requirement to travel to London, Edinburgh, and other locations across the UK as needed to support business operations.
The Adolescent Health Study (AHS) is a flagship £62 million initiative funded by UK Research and Innovation. It aims to establish a world-class open science data platform and research resource through an innovative longitudinal population study.
Designed to have a transformative impact, the AHS will recruit at least 100,000 participants aged 8-18 years from across the UK, tracking their health and wellbeing for a minimum of 10 years. This ambitious study will create an unparalleled data resource, enabling researchers globally to deepen their understanding of adolescence—a pivotal transition phase—and its influence on health and wellbeing later in life.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Chief Information Technology Officer (CITO) will play an essential role in shaping the organisation’s data and technology strategy. They will oversee the development, implementation, and management of the vision, strategy, and roadmap for AHS’s data and technology needs, ensuring data security, integrity, confidentiality, and accessibility.
The CITO will lead the procurement of infrastructure solutions to manage the complex participant data, in addition to strengthening information security frameworks and compliance programmes. Acting as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, the postholder will provide expertise on data management, information security, and regulatory compliance.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will bring proven leadership experience in a senior IT role, preferably in a research, academic, or healthcare setting. They will possess an in-depth understanding of research data management, curation, and analysis requirements, as well as privacy regulations and digital health technologies. Experience in managing sensitive data environments and delivering complex IT projects will be vital, coupled with strong knowledge of trusted research environments.
This role is a rare opportunity to help steer a transformative research initiative that will unravel the multifaceted developmental changes young people undergo during adolescence—a fundamental phase of physical, emotional, and social growth.
