The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Trials Data Specialist to join the Exeter Clinical Trials Unit (ExeCTU) within the Information Systems and Data Management (ISDM) team. This full-time position (1.0 FTE) is available for immediate start on a fixed-term contract until 30th September 2026.
The role offers hybrid working, with a blend of remote working and time on-site at the St Luke’s Campus in Exeter each week.
About ExeCTU
ExeCTU is a UKCRC-recognized Clinical Trials Unit supported by the University of Exeter. We specialize in collaborating with researchers and clinicians to design and deliver high-quality, efficient multi-centre trials and other health research studies addressing critical health questions. Our portfolio includes studies in areas such as dementia, mental health, orthopedics, emergency medicine, medicinal drugs, surgical techniques, and complex interventions.
Key Responsibilities
As a Clinical Trials Data Specialist, you will:
- Serve as the lead data management contact for 2–3 assigned studies.
- Build and configure new studies in REDCap, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.
- Design and implement efficient data reporting systems.
- Manage and oversee data processes throughout the entire study lifecycle.
- Provide updates on data management progress during team meetings.
- Coordinate with data managers, who will assist you in delivering project objectives.
Skills and Experience Required
To excel in this role, you will need:
- Demonstrated experience using REDCap to build clinical trial databases in a UK-regulated research environment.
- A strong understanding of data management within the context of clinical trials.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, as well as the ability to manage competing deadlines effectively.
- Knowledge of API integrations and proficiency in R programming to optimize data management and reporting (desirable).
- A commitment to maintaining data integrity and adhering to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards.

The ISDM team is comprised of 8 dedicated professionals with expertise in both data management and information systems. By working collaboratively, the team ensures the delivery of efficient and high-quality data solutions for clinical trials and research studies.
