The College of Innovation & Technology (CIT) at the University of Michigan-Flint invites applications for one or more tenure-track faculty positions in the Department of Mathematics, with expertise in areas including Statistics/Statistical Learning or Actuarial Science. CIT offers undergraduate programs in Mathematics and Actuarial Mathematics, as well as undergraduate and graduate programs in Data Analytics and Data Science.
Position Summary
Successful candidates will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, mentoring students, developing innovative and research-informed curricula, and contributing to a growing, interdisciplinary academic environment. Faculty are expected to establish a strong, externally-funded research program, publish in peer-reviewed journals and conferences, and contribute to the development of new programs and courses focused on actuarial mathematics, statistics, and/or mathematical data science.
CIT is also committed to fostering strong collaborations with regional industries, offering faculty and students the opportunity to engage in applied research and experiential learning projects. Generous startup packages that include funding and resources to support research initiatives will be offered to successful candidates.
CIT is growing rapidly and is currently undergoing a major hiring initiative to fill 25 new faculty positions across its three divisions.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following qualifications:
- A Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematical Data Science, or a closely-related field by the appointment date.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching, including experiences in face-to-face, online, and experiential settings, aligned with the desired rank.
- A strong research record, with peer-reviewed publications, and evidence of potential for obtaining external funding.
- Commitment to mentoring students and working with diverse faculty, staff, and student populations.
- For Associate or Full Professor appointments, a proven record of teaching excellence, successful grant writing, scholarly publications, and demonstrated leadership capabilities.
Preferred Expertise
Candidates with specialties in the following areas are particularly encouraged to apply:

This position is open for appointments beginning in any major semester within the 2025-2026 academic year, with start dates available on August 20, 2025, January 1, 2026, or August 20, 2026. Candidates must indicate their preferred start date in their application.

Work Mode
