Position Availability: Remote work opportunities at any UK location are offered for positions within the Clinical Effectiveness Unit – National Cancer Audit Collaborating Centre (NATCAN), located at the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS). Appointment discussions will cover remote working arrangements, with the expectation that incumbents will regularly visit the RCS for face-to-face meetings.
Role Overview: These positions offer a distinctive chance to contribute to a newly established national hub dedicated to reinforcing NHS cancer services and diminishing the variability in treatment. The roles are situated at NATCAN, operating under the umbrella of the Clinical Effectiveness Unit, which is a joint venture between the RCS and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. The successful candidates will play a crucial role in the centralized domains of data science and reporting at NATCAN, collaborating closely with Data Managers, Data Scientists, and other interdisciplinary team members. Tasks include improving data analysis and reporting efficiency, managing data inflow and validation, implementing data science techniques, automating reporting procedures, and creating state-of-the-art visualizations and dashboards. Occupants of the role will also enhance their advanced analysis and research competencies and participate in methodological innovation and epidemiological research to understand disparities in cancer care quality, treatments, and outcomes. Outcomes of these efforts will be shared through audit reports, dashboards, academic publications, and presentations at conferences.
Key Responsibilities:
– Perform statistical analysis to investigate care quality and outcomes in cancer patients across NHS entities, exploring various care patterns and their impact on patient outcomes.
– Facilitate initiatives aimed at improving care quality.
– Manage, clean, and prepare substantial linked clinical datasets for analysis, utilizing tools like SQL or statistical software packages.
– Design and implement data pipelines, applying algorithms to derive necessary variables.
– Create reports, dashboards, and data visualizations to support local quality enhancement efforts.
– Adhere to information governance policies in every project.
– Present analysis findings in various formats such as seminars, conferences, reports, and peer-reviewed journals.
Candidate Profile: Applicants are expected to have:
– A Bachelor’s or higher degree in medical statistics, data science, epidemiology, operational research, or a related field.
– Proficiency in health research methodologies and study designs.
– Experience with large, complex dataset analysis using statistical software.
– Contribution to written work, with a preference for published articles.
– Familiarity with information governance principles in healthcare data.
