About the Role
As the Deputy Director of Service Operations, you’ll be responsible for overseeing the tactical Service Operations (ITIL RUN) function at the University. Your duties will include managing ICT aspects like networking, infrastructure, enterprise systems, student systems, and corporate systems. This involves close collaboration with incident, problem, and change specialists within the IT Compliance group. Your role will encompass driving event management processes and enhancing integration and collaboration across Digital Technology Services (DTS). You will lead diverse technology teams to ensure a reliable, 24/7 high-availability environment supporting the University’s tech services. Additionally, you will provide strategic support to the Chief Information & Digital Officer (CIDO), offering hands-on management and guidance on Service Operations delivery, technology development, and ITIL/ITSM improvements within the DTS framework.
About You
To excel in this role, you will need:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Exceptional management and leadership skills with experience overseeing complex ecosystems and providing technical and policy advice at the executive level.
- Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, systems, ITIL 3 and 4 practices, and experience with project management methodologies and blended cloud/private infrastructure models.
- A proven track record of inspiring and leading large, cross-functional ITIL Service Operations teams in a 24/7 environment, encouraging high performance and budget compliance.
- Excellent planning, analytical, and problem-solving abilities, with experience delivering innovative solutions.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the capacity for negotiation, consensus-building, and effectively conveying expert advice to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Extensive experience in implementing industry-leading practices and technologies to improve IT operations and scalability, alongside a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Strong relationship-building skills and values-based leadership to foster a high-performing, adaptable team culture.
- An understanding of the higher education sector, with empathy for its research and educational priorities and familiarity with university structures.
- An ability to manage in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing business needs.
