Job Advertisement: Deputy Head of Student Administration (MBBS)

Position Details:

  • Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week
  • Salary: UH8 £46,049 – £58,225 per annum (incremental progression based on skills and experience)
  • Annual Leave: 30 days plus public holidays and an additional 4 days during the University’s closure over Christmas and New Year
  • Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield

The University of Hertfordshire is excited to launch its new Medical School, welcoming its first cohort of students in September 2026. With City St George’s Medical School, University of London, as our sponsor, we already have a passionate core team driving the project forward. To help develop and implement the MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) programme, we are expanding our team and are now seeking an experienced and motivated professional to join us as Deputy Head of Student Administration (MBBS). This key role will focus on student administration activities, ensuring the successful operation of the MBBS programme.


Key Responsibilities:

In this newly established senior leadership role, you will oversee all aspects of student administration for the MBBS programme, managing a dedicated team and collaborating closely with NHS partners, clinical placement providers, and colleagues across the University.

Key duties will include:

  • Ensuring compliance with University regulations and General Medical Council requirements
  • Supporting student assessments and coordinating placement allocations
  • Managing student records and administrative processes
  • Delivering an exceptional service and ensuring a high-quality experience for MBBS students

As a member of the Senior Management Team, you will contribute to the strategic and operational delivery of the MBBS programme, playing a pivotal role in shaping the University’s new Medical School.


Skills and Experience:

The ideal candidate will have significant experience in administrative roles within a large, complex organisation, and a proven track record of working with diverse stakeholders.

We are seeking someone with:

  • Strong people management skills, with the ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams
  • Excellent organisational, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • A solid understanding of regulations, policies, and data management
  • Outstanding interpersonal and influencing abilities, with the capability to build credibility and collaborate effectively with senior academic and professional colleagues

Qualifications:

You will hold a minimum of a degree or equivalent qualification, or have proven substantial administrative experience in lieu of formal education.
