University of Oxford

Worcester is one of the 39 colleges within the University of Oxford. Established in 1714, the college is located on a 26-acre site on the city’s western side, where the Benedictines originally established Gloucester College in 1283. Some of the buildings from that era still exist, creating a blend of architectural styles. The beautiful gardens, lake, and playing field are attractions for both students and visitors. The college hosts approximately 400 undergraduates and 200 graduate students, with 260 residing within the college premises and another 200 living in nearby College accommodation within 300 meters of the College Lodge. As with all Oxford Colleges, Worcester is an independent, self-governing entity regulated by the Charity Commission. The Governing Body consists of the Provost (the Head of the College) and 51 additional Fellows. Together, they oversee student admissions and education, the welfare of students and staff, and the College’s financial management.

Job Purpose

The main role of the Desktop Support Analyst is to deliver first-line support through the College helpdesk to College members (students, academic staff, and non-academic staff), guests, and others utilizing College facilities. Support requests are currently handled via an online helpdesk system, but inquiries may also come by phone, in-person, or via Microsoft Teams. The Desktop Support Analyst will also address alerts from the College’s operational monitoring system, which involves some basic systems administration. Additionally, the role includes participation in departmental projects, especially those involving hardware deployment or changes affecting all users. Record-keeping responsibilities include maintaining purchase orders, hardware inventory, IP address allocations, and equipment recycling records. Being part of a small, dynamic team offers significant opportunities to gain experience beyond first-line support. The post holder should be available to start work at 8 am.

You will enjoy excellent benefits, including a generous holiday allowance, a robust pension scheme, free lunch, and discounted bus travel.
