Position: We are seeking a Digital Library Assistant to join our Digital Library team.

About the Digital Library Team:
The Digital Library team delivers two key services:

  • The Digital Library: A service that creates, manages, preserves, and provides online access to a broad array of digitised materials from the Library’s collections on our flagship platforms:

LSE Digital Library
Charles Booth’s London

  • Web Editorship Services: Supporting the Library’s website by updating and improving its content to better reflect the Library’s services and showcase its collections.

In addition, the team offers expert advice on various technical and technological topics to colleagues both within and beyond the Library. Areas of focus include:

  • Collection digitisation
  • Digital preservation
  • Web development and the use of web technologies
  • Reuse of digital collections in research

About the Role:
As Digital Library Assistant, you will work closely with colleagues across the Library to preserve, manage, and provide online access to the Library’s digital collections. This role supports various stages of digitisation projects, from assessing and preparing physical items and enriching metadata, to processing digital assets for preservation systems and publishing them online via the LSE Digital Library.

Your core duties will include describing and managing the Library’s extensive and diverse digital collections. You will collaborate with the Digital Assets Manager (your line manager) as well as colleagues across other teams to meet this crucial strategic goal for the Library.

About You:
Ideal candidates will demonstrate:

  • Strong digital literacy and well-rounded IT skills.
  • Previous experience working with digital files and metadata (e.g., creating or enhancing metadata, converting file formats, or using software tools to work with digitised materials).
  • An ability to uphold high standards in managing both physical and digital collections.
  • Experience contributing to collaborative teams and excellent communication skills with a variety of stakeholders.
