The Role and the Department

As an Electrical and Data Infrastructure Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in delivering a professional, customer-oriented service that supports the University’s strategic and operational objectives. You will leverage your expertise to develop and enhance a reliable, efficient, and future-ready electrical and data infrastructure across the campus. Collaborating closely with Computing and Information Services (CIS), stakeholders, and contractors, you will be responsible for planning and ensuring the timely delivery of electrical and data installations and upgrades. Your work will maintain the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance, while ensuring projects are completed within budget.

This position provides a unique opportunity to shape the University’s infrastructure, influencing design processes, technical specifications, and service standards. You will oversee a diverse portfolio of projects from conception through completion, contribute to the University’s Building Engineering Services Design Guidelines, and serve as a key contact for resolving complex technical challenges. Additionally, you will be responsible for managing contractor frameworks, monitoring performance, and ensuring all projects align with the University’s sustainability objectives and safety regulations. As a respected expert in your field, you will collaborate across departments, lead working groups, and provide critical advice to support the University’s mission of delivering a world-class learning and research environment.

The Estates and Facilities Directorate lies at the heart of Durham University’s operations, providing essential services that include the management, maintenance, and development of infrastructure and building systems across the campuses.
