Imperial College London
About the Role
Do you have experience developing impactful exhibitions? Are you excited about the opportunity to create a meaningful, permanent exhibition at the core of a new research centre and public space in Paddington, London?
The Fleming Initiative, a groundbreaking partnership led by Imperial College London and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, is seeking a creative and accomplished Exhibition Content Developer. This role requires a strong background in content research, interpretation strategy development, and a passion for engaging local communities in exhibition design.
The Fleming Initiative’s mission is to safeguard global populations against the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) by pioneering research, fostering behavior change, engaging the public, and influencing policy. Central to this vision is the Fleming Centre London—a purpose-built venue opening in 2028—where visitors will explore and contribute to the past, present, and future of AMR research.
What You’ll Be Doing
As an Exhibition Content Developer, you’ll shape and deliver an innovative, permanent visitor experience. This will include object displays, commissioned artworks, compelling personal stories, digital assets, and interactives that rival the exhibits found in leading museums, galleries, and science centers. Based on the St Mary’s Hospital campus—the site of Sir Alexander Fleming’s monumental discovery of penicillin—you’ll also involve visitors in “living lab” experiences, enabling participation in AMR research.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Researching and producing content for the exhibition, including object lists, learning objectives, content hierarchies, interpretation strategies, and exhibition scripts.
- Actively engaging local communities to help shape exhibition content and themes.
- Developing briefs for interactive exhibits and overseeing their creation and delivery.
- Collaborating with Fleming Initiative researchers and policy experts to integrate opportunities for public involvement in ongoing research and policy development (“people-powered research”).
- Supporting the design and prototyping of exhibition elements as part of the Fleming Centre’s overall development.
- Championing and contributing to the delivery of the Fleming Initiative’s broader Public Engagement & Involvement Strategy.
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate will be a dynamic and resourceful professional with the following experience and skills:
- Extensive experience in content research and development for exhibitions, ideally with a focus on medical or health-related topics.
- Strong communication skills with a proven ability to simplify complex ideas for diverse audiences through excellent written and verbal storytelling.
- Expertise in developing interactive exhibits and digital content.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, multi-stakeholder environment, with a track record of effectively managing your own workload.
- A portfolio of delivering high-quality, impactful exhibitions.
Additional experience working with scientific content, researchers, healthcare professionals, and/or patients will be an asset. Above all, candidates should be passionate about addressing major public health challenges like AMR and committed to amplifying the voices of the public and patients in this critical work.
Further Information
- This is a full-time, hybrid role offered on an initial 12-month fixed-term contract, with the possibility of extension subject to funding. The position will be based at St Mary’s Campus in Paddington.
