Graduate Trainee Librarian – Full Time (36.25 hours per week), Fixed-Term for 1 Year
Magdalene College, one of the oldest and smallest colleges in Cambridge, is home to approximately 350 undergraduates and 200 postgraduates. Despite its size, Magdalene supports study across all academic subjects in the tripos. The College Library encompasses the award-winning New Library (opened in 2022), which houses the Archive and a Gallery, alongside the historic Old Library and the renowned Pepys Library.

We are seeking a Graduate Trainee Librarian to join our small, friendly team within the College Library for a one-year, fixed-term contract. This entry-level position offers a valuable opportunity for those considering a career in librarianship or information services to gain hands-on experience in an academic library setting. It is specifically intended for individuals exploring the profession and does not require prior extensive library experience or formal qualifications in the field.

The role involves supporting various day-to-day tasks and contributing to project work in the College Library, making a meaningful impact on its ongoing operations and development. Additionally, the trainee will have opportunities to assist with routine and project work in the College’s historic libraries and Archive, as well as undertake a personalized trainee project aligned with their interests. There will be designated time for professional development through participation in the Cambridge Libraries trainee group.
