Head of Business Intelligence, Data Analytics & Reporting: Role Overview
Take the lead in driving a data-informed future at LCCA, where strategy, decision-making, and team excellence meet to translate insights into meaningful impact. A senior strategic role central to LCCA’s data, planning, and performance mission, this position offers the opportunity to shape institutional data strategy and champion data-driven practices across the College.
As the Head of Business Intelligence, Data Analytics & Reporting, you will spearhead the delivery of innovative business intelligence solutions, enabling evidence-based decisions that support the College’s goals. You’ll foster a data-literate culture by advocating best practices and collaboration while ensuring data is an integral part of the institution’s strategic planning process.
Your leadership will be instrumental in developing a high-performing team, bringing together analysts, data scientists, engineers, and BI developers to ensure the continuous evolution of insight services. Partnering closely with the Academic Registrar, senior leadership teams, and academic schools, you will empower the College to harness data for planning, forecasting, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities and Activities:
Leadership and Data Governance
- Develop and execute LCCA’s data strategy, incorporating institution-wide data definitions and governance frameworks.
- Advocate for data quality, records management, and compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., OfS, HESA).
- Align data projects to institutional priorities, ensuring a single source of truth across reporting functions.
- Oversee the creation and delivery of dashboards, semantic data models, and BI tools, leveraging platforms such as Power BI.
Business Intelligence and Reporting
- Create and maintain dashboards for monitoring and reporting on College KPIs.
- Conduct complex analysis of performance indicators, including OfS metrics, NSS results, and league table trends.
- Deliver intuitive data visualisations, scenario planning, and benchmarking to inform decision-making processes.
Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration
- Build robust relationships with academic departments, professional services, and cross-functional teams like IT, Finance, HR, and Registry.
- Convert intricate data analysis into actionable, understandable insights for diverse stakeholders.
- Work closely with users to understand requirements and craft accessible, insightful dashboards.
Team Leadership
- Mentor, lead, and inspire a skilled team of data professionals, including analysts, scientists, and BI developers.
- Promote professional growth, collaboration, and employee wellbeing within the team.
Service Delivery and Support
- Provide insight and reporting to advance operational planning and strategic initiatives.
- Address data quality challenges while delivering training and guidance to staff as necessary.
- Ensure all reports and analyses are accurate, reliable, and appropriately presented with context and caveats.
Essential Criteria:
- Degree-level qualification or equivalent professional experience.
- A proven track record of leading data insight, analytics, or performance functions within a complex organisation, ideally in higher education.
- Experienced in developing and delivering insight services that drive planning, forecasting, and strategic decisions.
- Skilled in engaging senior stakeholders to define reporting requirements, prioritise initiatives, and embed consistent data processes.
- Proficient with BI and analytics tools (e.g., Power BI, Alteryx) and modern data platforms, including cloud-based solutions such as AWS.
Skills and Attributes:
- Strategic thinker with the ability to connect insights to institutional priorities while navigating complexity.
- Exceptional analytical skills with a talent for synthesising information, identifying trends, and translating data into actionable solutions.
- Expertise in contextualising data by combining quantitative analysis with sector knowledge to outline drivers, risks, and impacts.
- Outstanding communication and presentation skills, with the ability to deliver compelling insights to senior leaders and governance groups.
- Knowledgeable in data quality assurance and the responsible use of insight, maintaining ethical standards.
- Adept at coaching and empowering leaders to adopt evidence-informed decision-making practices.
Additional Information:
- Occasional travel between LCCA sites in London and across the UK may be required.
- The post holder may undertake additional duties in line with business needs.
