Job Purpose
The Head of Data and Information Security will provide strategic leadership and institutional oversight for cyber security and information governance at LSST. This high-profile role is responsible for safeguarding the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of LSST’s information assets while minimizing cyber and information risks across the organization.
Working in collaboration with Infrastructure Services, including IT Operations teams, the post holder will define, implement, and maintain the institution’s cyber security and information governance framework, ensuring the seamless operation of technical security controls.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategy Development: Create and implement a comprehensive cyber security and information governance strategy tailored to institutional goals and the complexities of the higher education landscape.
- Policy Oversight: Develop, enforce, and maintain security and data governance policies, standards, and procedures.
- Risk Management: Conduct cyber security and information risk assessments, monitoring and managing institutional risks effectively.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to relevant legislation, regulatory requirements, and sector guidelines.
- Collaborative Leadership: Partner with senior leaders, service owners, and technical teams to guarantee effective security practices, incident detection, and response measures.
- Supplier Assurance: Monitor and manage third-party and supplier security risks.
- Organizational Culture: Cultivate a shared culture of responsibility for data protection and cyber security across LSST.
- Incident Preparedness: Lead cyber incident management and business continuity strategies, ensuring readiness and effective response to potential threats.
- Expert Guidance: Offer authoritative advice on incident response processes and support local arrangements for cyber security.
- Incident Coordination: Manage institutional responses to complex cyber or information security incidents, ensuring timely resolution and communication internally and externally.
- Awareness and Training: Design and deliver training programs to bolster data security awareness across LSST.
- Executive Assurance: Provide senior leadership with detailed insights on cyber security and information governance risks and controls.
- Risk Communication: Translate intricate technical risks into actionable and comprehensible guidance to support informed decision-making.
- Sector Engagement: Stay informed about emerging threats, regulations, and best practices through active participation in external professional networks.
- Continuous Improvement: Ensure LSST’s data and information security approaches remain up-to-date, proportionate, and effective.
