High-Performance Computing (HPC) Specialist
Location: Loughborough University
Role Type: Full-time, open-ended hybrid position
Salary: Management and Specialist Grade 6 – £35,608 to £46,049 per annum (subject to annual pay award). Additionally, this role includes a market supplement of up to £17,000 per annum.
About the Role
This hybrid role requires a minimum of three days per week on-site at our Loughborough campus, with additional on-site attendance during induction and as needed.
We are seeking an experienced High-Performance Computing (HPC) Specialist to support our growing HPC services and user base, which is expanding to include taught-course students. The role involves delivering training, providing user outreach, and utilizing specialist knowledge to ensure the smooth operation, support, and development of the University’s HPC systems.
The HPC environment at Loughborough is built on Linux-based systems and includes high-performance storage, interconnects, monitoring systems, and related applications. The successful candidate will be instrumental in supporting these resources and contributing to the University’s research infrastructure.
This position has access to technology and data governed by U.S. Export Control laws. Candidates who are citizens or permanent residents of Country Group D (as defined by U.S. EAR regulations) will require a deemed re-export licence. Selection of such candidates is contingent upon the successful outcome of the licence application.

About You
The ideal applicant should demonstrate the following skills and experience:
- Linux Expertise: Strong working knowledge of Linux servers in a production environment.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in troubleshooting hardware and software faults.
- Programming: Familiarity with scripting in UNIX shell (bash), Perl, Python, and experience in compiling HPC code from source.
- Training Skills: Experience providing training and presentations to audiences of varying experience levels.
- Support & Collaboration: Excellent ability to coordinate requests for support from service delivery staff, researchers, module tutors, and students, prioritising according to organizational needs.
