University of Nottingham
We are excited to offer a permanent opportunity for an experienced IT Operations Support Engineer to become a valued member of our dedicated IT Operations team within Digital & Technology Services.
As part of the IT Operations team, you will collaborate with a skilled group to support both on-premise and cloud-based services across our campuses in the UK, China, and Malaysia. In this role within the Enterprise Operations Team, you will be responsible for ensuring the availability and quality of central systems and services critical to the university. Your role will include monitoring central IT systems and services, providing 3rd line support to quickly restore operations when systems fail.
You will play a pivotal part within infrastructure and change teams, serving as the subject matter expert for backup and restore processes. Acting as the primary service owner, you will ensure the service remains fit-for-purpose, up-to-date, aligned with strategic roadmaps, and delivered to agreed SLAs/KPIs. Collaborating with wider DTS teams, you will take the lead in planning and executing scheduled maintenance and upgrades, as well as contributing significantly to business continuity planning and resolving major incidents or problems when required.
Your expertise will include advanced knowledge of backup and restore technologies (such as VEEAM), VMWare ESX, storage systems, and SQL database administration. Additionally, you will have significant experience supporting Windows server technologies, including Active Directory administration, Azure/EntraID, and Microsoft 365. Ideally, you have worked in a large, multi-technology network environment, supporting both on-premise and cloud-based services. Your background should also include proficiency in monitoring systems to manage performance and ensure network security.
We are seeking a candidate with a degree/professional qualification or equivalent relevant experience, who is a self-motivated individual with proven ability in ITIL and delivering change in complex IT environments.
This position is offered on a permanent contract with full-time hours (36.25 hours per week), although applications from candidates seeking part-time work (minimum 29 hours per week) are also welcome. If applying for part-time hours, please specify your preferred working hours. Job share arrangements may be considered.
