The Department: Library, Archives, and Learning Services (LALS)

Library, Archives, and Learning Services at UEL is a diverse, customer-centric department dedicated to enhancing the experiences of all our university members and the broader community. With two campus libraries offering various study spaces and an abundance of online resources and services, we pride ourselves on our Customer Service Excellence award.

Job Purpose:

To deliver high-quality, customer-focused library, archives, and open-access IT support to a diverse learning and research community, both in-person and online. Ensure customers understand the available resources and guide them in using these resources efficiently. Participate in the routine tasks of LALS.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of a team to provide helpdesk and roaming services, assisting customers with library transactions.
  • Provide front-line IT support to customers, including advice on printing, supported software, e-submission, VLE, use of mobile devices, Wi-Fi, internet troubleshooting, and Office365.
  • Answer library service, facility, and resource inquiries in person or through our enquiry management system, check student records when necessary, and refer or escalate issues to colleagues or external services when appropriate.
  • Advise students on all information resources, including both physical and online collections. Guide students to appropriate resources based on their discipline and study level and provide instructions on how to use them.
  • Assist in providing a range of library services, including stock acquisition and management, reading lists, free e-textbooks, holds, interlibrary loans, communications, and social media.
  • Operate in accordance with UEL’s equality and diversity policies.

Local Requirements:

The postholder will need to work evening and Saturday duties on a rota basis. Regular onsite hours at both the Docklands and Stratford campuses are required, with flexibility for home-working subject to operational needs.
