About the Role

The Weston Library is seeking a dedicated Library Assistant to join its Reader Services team. In this role, you will perform a range of front-line library services, including issuing books and manuscripts from the Reserve, addressing book supply issues, assisting with reader inquiries, advising on the scope of collections, invigilating, and applying library and copyright regulations.

This is a full-time, permanent position requiring 36.5 hours of work per week. Standard working hours are Monday–Friday, 08:40–17:00.

The role involves physical activities such as lifting and carrying boxes, pushing trolleys, climbing ladders, and using kick-stools to access bookshelves and re-shelve items.


About You

To succeed in this role, you should have:

  • A solid general education
  • A strong customer service ethos
  • Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to work under pressure
  • Excellent teamwork, attention to detail, and strong IT proficiency

While not required, the following skills and experience are desirable:

  • Prior experience in academic libraries, particularly in a special collections environment
  • Familiarity with SOLO/Alma and library databases
