Location: Bodleian Old Library and Radcliffe Camera, Oxford

About the Role

The Bodleian Libraries are part of the University of Oxford’s Gardens, Libraries, and Museums (GLAM) group, delivering world-class library services to students, staff, and readers worldwide. This position is primarily based at the Bodleian Old Library and Radcliffe Camera, with occasional duties at other Bodleian Humanities Libraries as required.

In this role, you will welcome readers and visitors, manage admissions procedures, and provide exceptional customer service at frontline service points. You will handle enquiries in person, on the phone, and online, assisting readers with the use of library spaces, collections, and electronic resources, while referring specialized enquiries to the appropriate colleagues. Tasks include a full range of reader services such as issuing and returning materials, managing bookings and inter-library loans, and maintaining usage statistics.

This is a permanent, part-time position, working 32.484 hours per week (0.89 FTE).


About You

The ideal candidate will be educated to GCSE level or equivalent and possess excellent communication skills, allowing you to confidently and courteously engage with readers, colleagues, and members of the public. You will have prior experience in a customer service role and an understanding of the importance of a welcoming and high-quality service. Competence with IT systems, including email, internet, and standard office applications, is essential. Additionally, you will demonstrate accuracy and care in carrying out routine tasks.
