Position: Library Manager and Liaison Librarian
Location: Charing Cross Campus Library (Hammersmith) – Hybrid working model (at least 60% on-site, contingent upon local staffing requirements)

Job Overview

Imperial College London’s Faculty of Medicine is seeking a dynamic and highly motivated individual to deliver exceptional and proactive library services. This multifaceted role involves high-level liaison and relationship-building, development and delivery of research and teaching support, management of a mid-sized team, oversight of campus library operations, and execution of strategic library projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Stakeholder Liaison: Act as the primary library contact for the Faculty of Medicine at Charing Cross, cultivating effective relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders.
  • Teaching and Research Support: Collaborate with colleagues to design and deliver a comprehensive suite of teaching sessions, both embedded and standalone, along with one-on-one support for students and researchers.
  • Library Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Charing Cross Campus Library, including team supervision, health and safety protocols, and coordination with other campus libraries.
  • Knowledge Development: Continuously expand expertise in areas such as information literacy, systematic review methods, technology-enhanced learning, generative AI, scholarly communication, and advanced teaching techniques.

Essential Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications, skills, and experiences:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Library Services Experience: Substantial experience in delivering library services within higher education, healthcare, or research settings.
  • Training Delivery: Demonstrated expertise in providing training and support for diverse library users, both in one-on-one settings and for large groups, across face-to-face and online formats.
  • Information Resources Support: Extensive experience addressing complex queries using expert knowledge of information resources.
  • Staff Management: Proven experience in effectively managing and supervising teams.
  • Research Support: Knowledge of research support, including familiarity with open access publishing, research data management, or bibliometrics.
  • Open Access Expertise: Solid understanding of current and emerging trends in open access publishing in the UK.
  • Teaching/Learning Awareness: Insight into modern teaching and learning practices and approaches.
  • Research Life Cycle Knowledge: Awareness of the needs and requirements of a scientific research community.
  • Advocacy and Relationship-Building Skills: Demonstrable ability to advocate effectively, influence decisions, and foster collaborative relationships with a wide range of people.
  • Organisational Skills: Strong time-management and organisational abilities.
  • Team Player: Flexible, cooperative, and self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and contribute to team objectives.
  • Customer Service: Proven track record of delivering excellent customer support in frontline service environments.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills essential for liaising with stakeholders and teaching delivery.
  • ICT Proficiency: Well-developed skills in ICT systems such as MS Office, Library Management Systems (LMS), Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs), reading list software, and generative AI tools.
