Library Technician (Permanent Part-Time)
Location: Broadmeadows Library Team – Hume Libraries
Roster: 17.5 hours per week across three days
Salary: $75,252.28 per annum (pro-rata) plus Superannuation

The Role:
We are seeking a dedicated Library Technician to join our Broadmeadows Library team in a permanent part-time capacity, working 17.5 hours per week. The roster includes:

  • Tuesday: 10am – 5pm (with a 45-minute break)
  • Wednesday: 10am – 5pm (with a 45-minute break)
  • Thursday: 5pm – 10pm

You will play a key role in delivering high-quality library services to meet the educational, recreational, and informational needs of Hume’s vibrant and diverse community. This includes direct customer service, program facilitation, collection management, and support for technology-based resources.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide outstanding customer service at the circulation desk, including issuing and returning library items.
  • Promote library resources, services, and programs to the community.
  • Contribute to program planning, facilitation, and evaluation alongside the programs team.
  • Maintain local library collections by reallocating and withdrawing materials as needed.
  • Plan, organise, and deliver successful events and programs in accordance with policies and guidelines.
  • Assist in creating and designing engaging digital marketing screens for library programs, ensuring accuracy and creativity.
  • Support customers with technology usage, such as downloading e-resources, borrowing, and printing.

About You:
To excel in this role, you’ll bring:

  • Qualifications: Diploma of Library/Information Services (Library Technician) or an equivalent post-secondary qualification.
  • Experience: Prior experience in a Public Library or similar environment.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to engage and collaborate effectively with people from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong computer skills and familiarity with print and electronic information resources.
  • Program Facilitation: Proven ability to plan, deliver, and evaluate programs in a library setting.
  • Literary Knowledge: An interest in books and general literature.
  • Customer Service Expertise: Experience delivering reference and information services to the public.
  • Attention to Detail: Familiarity with cash handling and reconciliation processes.
