About the Role

Network Infrastructure Lead
This is an opportunity for you to take end-to-end ownership of a large-scale, multimillion-pound network replacement project, ensuring its successful delivery on time, within budget, and to the agreed standard. You’ll play a fundamental role in securing UEL’s digital future and contributing to the fulfilment of Vision 2028.

This is a high-priority role, requiring sharp focus, urgency, and a commitment to outcomes. From selecting an external delivery partner to leading implementation, handover, and sustainability planning, you’ll steer all aspects of this key infrastructure initiative.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the procurement process for an external delivery partner, preparing documentation, evaluating bids, and managing contracts.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of new network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, and data centre technologies across three sites.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define institutional needs and quickly translate them into precise technical requirements.
  • Assess the current network inventory or initiate an audit if necessary to inform design decisions.
  • Identify and secure internal resources; prepare evidence-based business cases for recruitment and funding where required.
  • Monitor and effectively manage third-party vendor performance, promptly resolving issues and maintaining project momentum.

About You

We’re looking for an experienced, delivery-focused Network Infrastructure Lead with a proven ability to successfully procure, plan, and implement large-scale network infrastructure upgrades across physical sites. You will bring a strong focus on execution, an eye for detail, and the ability to navigate complex projects while keeping them on track.

In addition to driving project delivery, you’ll foster a culture of continuous improvement within the IT Services team and across the University. Your ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders and lead cross-functional teams will be pivotal to your success.

Skills and Experience:

  • Clear, confident decision-making and execution.
  • Expertise in network infrastructure design, procurement, and implementation.
  • Experience with project delivery in intensive, fast-paced environments.
  • Familiarity with ITIL and a commitment to process improvement.
