Manchester Metropolitan University is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Programme Security Architect to lead the strategic Security & Risk transformation programme. In this key position, you’ll be instrumental in developing and implementing cutting-edge security architectures, harnessing Microsoft’s security tools including Defender, Sentinel, and Identity solutions to enhance both on-premises and cloud-based systems—strengthening our cyber resilience and expanding our security capability.
Working closely with security, architecture, and project teams, you will design secure, integrated, and aligned business solutions that drive capability improvements across strategy alignment, technical planning, innovation, and modelling. Your expertise will ensure robust, scalable, and forward-thinking security architectures that support our ambitious digital objectives.

About the Directorate & Department
IT & Digital Directorate
Manchester Met’s IT & Digital Directorate leads the University’s digital transformation by co-creating innovative, user-centred digital services that enrich teaching, learning, and research both locally and globally.
Information Security Department
The Information Security team protects the University’s digital assets by ensuring they are secure, compliant, and resilient. The department develops and implements security policies, provides expert advice, mitigates risks, and deploys technologies to detect and neutralise threats effectively.
About the Role
As Programme Security Architect, your key responsibilities will include:
- Designing & Deploying Security Architectures
Develop and implement advanced security architectures for both cloud and on-premises systems with a Microsoft-first approach.
- Strategic Alignment
Ensure all security solutions align with the University’s broader business and technology roadmaps.
- Expert Guidance & Mentorship
Provide technical expertise and mentor teams on security architecture methodologies, tools, and best practices.
- Stakeholder Collaboration
Engage with stakeholders to translate complex security requirements into sustainable, tailored solutions.
- Documentation & Planning
Create and maintain comprehensive security documentation, strategic roadmaps, and technical frameworks.
Key Skills & Experience
We’re looking for a highly skilled professional with:
- Microsoft Expertise
Significant experience in designing and deploying security solutions using Microsoft Defender services and Sentinel.
- Cloud Integration Knowledge
Proven ability to deliver secure and scalable solutions across diverse cloud environments.
- Technical & Strategic Competence
In-depth knowledge of security frameworks, defence-in-depth strategies, and Secure Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- Communication Skills
Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise language for diverse audiences.
- Collaboration & Influence
Strong stakeholder engagement skills, capable of aligning technical solutions with strategic objectives.
- Innovation & Process Improvement
Demonstrated ability to lead transformative security initiatives that drive efficiency and innovation.
Highly Desirable Certifications
The following certifications are highly advantageous:
- CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional)
- CISM (Certified Information Security Manager)
- Microsoft SC-200, AZ-500, or SC-100
- TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework)
