An exciting opportunity has emerged to join the Centre for Social Care and Artificial Intelligence Learning (SCALE) and the School of Computer Science and Informatics. Funded by Health Care Research Wales, SCALE is set to officially launch in April 2025 with the goal of leveraging Artificial Intelligence to tackle pressing challenges in social care for children and adults. The Centre represents a truly interdisciplinary collaboration between the School of Computer Science and Informatics and two research hubs within the School of Social Sciences: the Children’s Social Care Research and Development Centre (CASCADE) and the Centre for Adult Social Care (CARE).
In this role, you will play a critical part by offering advice, guidance, and support regarding public and stakeholder engagement—this includes working closely with social workers, local authorities, third-sector organizations, and individuals with lived experience. Your expertise will ensure that the Centre’s research strategy, operations, and funding applications authentically incorporate perspectives grounded in real social care experiences. There may also be opportunities for direct involvement in individual research projects with practitioners and people with lived experience, as well as exploring developmental prospects within the Centre. Additionally, you will contribute to the dissemination of research findings to stakeholders such as individuals with lived experience, social care practitioners, and the broader public.
Flexibility and travel across Wales will be essential for this role, with occasional evening and weekend work required to accommodate participatory and engagement activities. This position is eligible for a blended working approach, allowing you to divide your time between working remotely (e.g., from home) and at physical locations such as SPARK, the Social Science Research Park, or Abacws, home to the School of Computer Science and Informatics. Discussions about working arrangements can take place following the appointment of the successful candidate. Cardiff University supports flexibility wherever the role and business needs permit, promoting work-life balance.
For shortlisting, applications will be reviewed to assess evidence that candidates meet the essential (and desirable) criteria outlined in greater detail later in this advert. Applicants are encouraged to include a supporting statement highlighting how their skills and experiences align with the person specification or demonstrate transferable competencies suitable for this role.
This position is part-time (17.5 hours per week) and will run from 1st April 2025 to 31st March 2028.
Salary: £33,482 per annum, pro-rata for part-time hours (Grade 5), with annual increments up to £36,130 per annum at the scale’s top end.
For informal inquiries about the role, please contact Prof Stuart Allen (Centre Director, [email protected]) or Rachael Vaughan (Public Involvement Manager, CASCADE, [email protected]).
For questions related to the recruitment/application process, please contact Simon Hogg, HR Administrator: [email protected].
