University of Cambridge
We are seeking applications for the position of Research Coordinator to join the Speech, Hearing, and Early Language Learning (SHELL) Study, led by Dr. Lizzie Buchanan-Worster and Dr. Matt Davis. This exciting opportunity is ideal for an enthusiastic and well-organised individual with an interest in research coordination.
The SHELL Study involves administering computer-based tests of hearing and speech listening skills to entire classrooms of 5-6-year-old children (approximately 2400 children in total). These assessments will take place during interactive science-focused education sessions and will utilize tablets and headphones. Additionally, the study will evaluate children’s language and reading abilities (such as their vocabulary knowledge), as well as other cognitive skills (e.g., attention maintenance). Over the course of two school years, we aim to investigate how children’s hearing and language skills correlate with standardised academic outcomes (e.g., phonics check scores).
The Research Coordinator will play a vital role in managing the project. Key responsibilities include overseeing the organisation of the study, liaising with teachers, school leaders, and SENCOs, and coordinating a team of research assistants for school visits. Additional duties involve supporting data management from the school visits and disseminating findings and outcomes of the project to stakeholders.
This is a fixed-term position for 1 year initially, starting at the beginning of March, with the possibility of extension depending on project needs.
