Do you love working with data and want to make an impact in the public sector? The National Archives is seeking a skilled data specialist to transform archival metadata and bring history to life.

About Us

At The National Archives, research plays a central role in everything we do, spanning multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary fields connected to our collections and activities. This position focuses on supporting two flagship projects:

  • EHRI-UK: As the UK hub of the European Holocaust Research Infrastructure (EHRI), an ERIC committed to advancing transnational Holocaust research, education, and commemoration, EHRI-UK integrates scattered Holocaust archive information into a unified EHRI portal.
  • 1941 National Farm Survey: Offering a snapshot of UK agriculture and land use during WWII, this survey contains detailed data on over 300,000 farms in England and Wales. Highly sought after by researchers, the current paper records are complex to access. Generously funded by the Lund Trust, this project aims to digitise the survey’s data, making it more accessible online.

About the Role

As the data analyst supporting these projects, you will take the lead in designing and developing scripts and tools to automate the transformation and processing of archival metadata. You’ll primarily work with data formats such as .csv, .xlsx, .xml, and .json. Based in the dynamic Research, Grants, and Academic Engagement Department, you’ll collaborate across organisational teams to deliver technical solutions and consultancy.

Why Work With Us?

Located in the picturesque surroundings of Kew, just a 10-minute walk from Underground and Overground stations, The National Archives offers a supportive, collegial atmosphere coupled with incredible perks. These include:

  • Flexible working options
  • An on-site gym
