Scientific Computing Officer
Fixed Term – 4 Years

Applications are invited for the position of Scientific Computing Officer, an exciting opportunity to join a dedicated team supporting and advancing cutting-edge open-source technologies. The role focuses on managing Linux servers for High-Performance Computing (HPC) and distributed scale-out storage systems.

Key Responsibilities:
As part of the team, you will help maintain a diverse computing environment encompassing Linux, Mac, and PC systems, ensuring optimal performance while maintaining security standards. This role offers the chance to work on systems that are primarily in-house, providing insight into every level of the scientific computing stack.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in a support or development role in either a commercial, academic, or research setting.
  • Practical knowledge of scripting languages such as Bash or Perl.
  • Exposure to clustered file systems (e.g., Ceph) and job scheduling systems (e.g., Slurm) is desirable but not required.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, especially in open-source environments.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise work independently.
  • Creative thinker with good teamwork and communication skills.
