Are you a seasoned Security Architect eager to design cutting-edge, secure solutions? Do you thrive at bridging cybersecurity strategies with organisational goals, fostering innovation and success? If so, we invite you to be part of our team at University Information Services (UIS), University of Cambridge.
Who We Are:
University Information Services (UIS) delivers vital IT services underpinning both the academic and administrative functions of the University of Cambridge. Our work plays a crucial role in the University’s reputation and success, addressing strategic-level risks and objectives. From communications and storage systems to enterprise technologies supporting staff and students, UIS ensures these key services are developed, delivered, and maintained to the highest standard.
About the Role:
As Security Architect, you’ll be at the forefront of protecting the University’s physical and digital assets against rising cyber threats. This pivotal role supports major strategic initiatives, including the Cyber Security Risk Reduction Programme and the HR and Finance Transformation Programmes—both high-priority University projects.
As the lead architect in cybersecurity, you’ll work closely with IT teams, including network administrators, software developers, and system engineers, ensuring security measures are seamlessly integrated into the University’s infrastructure and operations. Beyond collaboration, this role involves in-depth research and recommendations at the senior organisational level, shaping a forward-looking cybersecurity investment and action plan that spans years and defines the University’s defence strategy into the next decade.
This unique opportunity also provides the chance to engage with some of the world’s leading experts, sharing knowledge and insights to drive meaningful impact across the University.
What We’re Looking For:
You should bring:
- A strong foundation in information security, with extensive experience in designing, implementing, and managing complex security solutions.
- Proven, hands-on expertise gained in roles such as Security Analyst, Security Engineer, or Security Consultant.
- Deep knowledge of cybersecurity principles, technologies, and best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to lead security initiatives and foster collaboration across diverse teams—from network security and application security to cloud security and compliance.
- Outstanding communication and leadership skills, essential for articulating security needs, influencing senior stakeholders, and embedding a security-first mindset throughout the organisation.
This is a permanent, full-time role, primarily based at the University’s West Cambridge Site. We also encourage applications for part-time or other flexible working arrangements.
What We Offer:
As part of the University of Cambridge, you’ll enjoy:
- A competitive salary with service-related progression and annual cost-of-living adjustments.
- A generous 41 days of annual leave (inclusive of bank holidays).
- Access to a substantial hybrid pension scheme with attractive employer contributions.
- Discounts on shopping, travel, and more through the Cambens scheme.
We particularly encourage applications from women and individuals from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BME) backgrounds, as they are underrepresented at this level in our department.
