Sheffield Hallam University

The Role
The Student Records and Assessment Team is structured into two distinct groups: the Student Records Team and the Assessment Team.

The Student Records Team manages student records throughout the entire student lifecycle – from enrolment to graduation. This includes overseeing university-wide processes such as enrolment, selecting modules, dealing with changes in circumstances, addressing extenuation claims, managing examinations, and preparing graduation materials.

The Assessment Team is responsible for coordinating university-wide assessment operations, including managing assessment submission dates, processing marks and progression decisions, administering awards, and handling reporting and registration tasks.

The Department
Registry Services plays a pivotal role in supporting the student journey and ensuring the integrity of academic administration across the university. This department is divided into three key functional areas:

  • Records and Assessment: Oversees student records and delivers assessment-related processes.
  • Student Systems and Data: Manages the development and maintenance of student systems, ensures data accuracy, and coordinates external statutory returns.
  • Student Policy, Casework, and Compliance: Leads academic policy development, supervises complex student cases, and ensures compliance with regulations, including UKVI.

These three teams collaborate to provide efficient, student-centered services that underpin the university’s academic mission.

Pension Scheme
You will be enrolled in the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), one of the largest defined benefit pension plans in the UK.

Under LGPS, you will earn a secure pension benefit of 1/49th of your salary annually, and the university will contribute approximately 22% of your salary value towards this pension. For example, if your starting salary is £25,000, the university will contribute over £5,400 annually, and you will earn a pension benefit of £510 per year (payable from your State Pension Age).

If you’re currently a member of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS), you may opt out of LGPS and continue with USS. Please contact the Pensions team to explore your options.
