Job Title: Senior AV Engineer Position at Kingston University

Position Description:

Join the Audio-Visual (AV) Team within our IT Services at Kingston University, serving multiple university locations with dedicated AV support. The role involves managing incidents, fulfilling service requests, supporting events, and engaging in AV-related projects. You will oversee more than 300 AV spaces, comprising classrooms, lecture halls, event areas, conference rooms, and digital signage venues, as well as managing occasional ad-hoc events.

Your workload will fluctuate with the academic calendar, focusing on incident response at times and shifting towards preventive maintenance and projects at others. The position includes supporting university events which may necessitate some work outside of normal business hours.

In the capacity of Senior AV Engineer, you’ll have the responsibility to stand in for the AV manager as needed and to provide guidance and training to fellow AV Engineers and IT Services staff.

Candidate Profile:

We are seeking a candidate with an in-depth understanding of AV systems prevalent in higher education and current AV technology. The ideal candidate thrives under pressure, possesses strong problem-solving abilities, and is adept at addressing issues promptly in dynamic settings. A commitment to providing high-caliber AV services and responding swiftly to urgent incidents is essential.

The role demands a customer service-oriented approach, coupled with exceptional oral and written communication skills for effective interactions with users, suppliers, support partners, and for maintaining clear documentation. Since the University spans across various sites, comfort in working autonomously and efficiently managing your workload, especially during peak times, is critical to meet the demands of university stakeholders.

Department Overview:

The Information and Technology Services department develops, delivers, and maintains digital resources and infrastructures for students and staff, facilitating education, research, and administrative work. Among our chief objectives are to bring innovation, roll out new digital solutions, and provide steadfast support for the university’s diverse digital needs. A strong commitment to sustainability, a high standard of customer service, and a culture embracing continuous improvement are hallmarks of our department.
