Background of Department/Role
Step into the dynamic Strategic Planning and Insight Directorate, where your contributions will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our institution. As part of our Business Insight team, you’ll empower staff to effectively harness data, enabling real improvements to the student experience and fostering strategic planning and operational effectiveness across the university.
You’ll be a vital member of a small team of analysts dedicated to designing, developing, and maintaining innovative data visualisations, dashboards, and reports by leveraging cutting-edge software and analytical techniques. Within the team, you’ll take the lead in one or more key technical areas, ensuring best practices are disseminated and consistently applied.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver impactful insights: Create distributed data reports and visualisations to provide insights at the point of need, supporting informed decision-making across the university.
- Lead technical development: Spearhead the design and maintenance of management information and reporting systems using tools like Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Microsoft Excel, and T-SQL via SSMS.
- Team support: Take on line management responsibilities for one of the more junior Business Intelligence Analysts, supporting their development and fostering collaboration.
- Enable informed usage: Develop and deliver training sessions and resources, such as user guides and documentation, to support report users.
- Collaborate across departments: Work closely with newly appointed Business and Planning Partners (BPPs) to provide analytical support to the university’s four Schools.
- Tailored analysis: Interpret data on a case-by-case basis to deliver actionable insights to colleagues and manage Freedom of Information (FOI) and external requests.
