To support this exciting new initiative and join a dynamic, dedicated team, we are seeking a talented and experienced Senior Data Engineer to play an integral role in designing, developing, and optimising MMU’s CDDR-focused cloud-based data warehousing capabilities. You will closely collaborate with key stakeholders, including researchers and technical experts, to ensure CDDR’s data platforms are scalable, secure, and capable of supporting advanced analytics, machine learning, and high-volume data processing. Your expertise will be instrumental in positioning Manchester Met as a leader in the fields of digital and data-driven research.

About the Role
As the Senior Data Engineer for the CDDR, your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the design, development, and optimisation of the University’s Azure-based CDDR platform to support data-driven research and institutional initiatives.
- Designing, testing, implementing, and managing data pipelines, along with CDDR Lakehouse and data warehouse architectures to enable advanced analytics and AI-powered research.
- Collaborating with academic researchers, data scientists, and IT teams to deliver secure, scalable, high-performance data solutions within the Azure environment.
- Advocating for and implementing best practices in design, data governance, security, and automation.
- Partnering with the Azure Cloud Operations Team to ensure the research platform meets scalability, compliance, monitoring, and security requirements.

About You
We’re looking for a candidate with the following expertise and qualities:
- Technical Expertise: Proven experience in designing and managing data warehousing platforms, data ingestion, and optimising pipelines with a commitment to quality. You should have a solid understanding of Microsoft Azure services, including Azure Data Lake, Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL, and Azure Data Factory (ADF).
- Data Architecture: Strong knowledge of modern data architecture principles, including data modelling, ETL/ELT pipelines, and systems that support advanced analytics and AI.
- Quality Assurance: A meticulous, quality-driven approach to work, with the ability to document, test, and deliver outputs that meet Manchester Met’s high standards.
- Collaboration: Exceptional communication and teamwork skills, enabling you to work effectively with technical colleagues, researchers, and other key stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver impactful solutions.
