To support this transformative strategy, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Data Engineer to play a vital role in maintaining and optimising our data infrastructure, pipelines, and reporting systems. This position will involve designing, delivering, and enhancing the University’s data warehousing solutions, alongside contributing to the modernisation of platforms such as Power BI.

Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Data Engineer at Manchester Metropolitan University, you will:

  • Collaborate with other data engineers to design, develop, and optimise the University’s data ingestion pipelines, as well as the maintenance and enhancement of our existing data platforms.
  • Build, test, implement, and manage data pipelines for the institutional data warehouse to support more advanced reporting, insights, and analytics.
  • Partner with the Analytics Team, Software Engineering, IT & Digital departments, and other stakeholders across the University to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performing data solutions.
  • Champion best practices in design, automation, data governance, and security.
  • Work with current Microsoft and Oracle systems to maintain efficient service delivery while contributing to the development of future data solutions.

Your Profile
We are looking for someone who can bring:

  • Demonstrated expertise in designing and managing data warehousing platforms and pipelines, with a strong focus on quality-driven design practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Azure tools such as Azure Data Lake, Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL, and Azure Data Factory (ADF).
  • Knowledge of modern data architecture, including data modelling, ETL/ELT processes, and workflows supporting analytics and AI workloads.
  • Commitment to ensuring comprehensive documentation, rigorous quality control, and adherence to Manchester Metropolitan quality standards.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams and non-technical stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver impactful solutions.
