Senior Database Administrator Role (Full-Time, Hybrid)

We’re excited to offer a full-time, permanent opportunity for a Senior Database Administrator within our IT Services team at Loughborough University. This hybrid role involves working on-site at our Loughborough location for a minimum of one to two days per week, with additional on-site attendance during induction and as required.

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Senior Database Administrator to join our dynamic Database Administration team. This is a pivotal role within the department, where you’ll ensure the reliability, performance, and security of the University’s database systems, enabling students, staff, and researchers while supporting the institution’s ongoing mission.

Responsibilities include:

  • Delivering high-quality database services to enhance the University’s operations.
  • Maintaining data integrity, availability, and scalability for critical systems.
  • Leading the daily management, optimisation, and automation of Oracle & SQL Server environments.
  • Contributing to digital transformation projects, including cloud migrations and the implementation of modern security, backup, and recovery standards.

About You

We’re looking for a competent and adaptable professional with the following:

  • Extensive experience managing enterprise database platforms, particularly Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Expertise in performance optimisation, backup & recovery processes, and cloud-focused database solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve complex issues.
  • Collaborative mindset, with excellent communication skills to share knowledge across teams and departments.
  • Degree-level qualification paired with relevant professional IT certifications and hands-on experience.
