About the Department

The Software Engineering Department within IT&D oversees the development, maintenance, support, and administration of approved software applications used throughout Manchester Metropolitan University. Our scope covers a broad digital portfolio, including Campus Experience, Digital Workplace, Education, Finance, and the Student Lifecycle.

We work in a hybrid model, with the team convening on-site on Thursdays as our designated “anchor day.”

About the Team

The Student Relationship Management (SRM) Team is at the core of transforming how the University engages with prospective students, supports current learners, and connects them with essential services throughout their academic journey.

We leverage Microsoft Dynamics 365, Power Platform, and related Microsoft technologies to design and deliver innovative, user-centered solutions. Our work underpins vital functions like Recruitment and Admissions as well as Student Services, streamlining key processes such as enquiry and case management while enhancing engagement across the student lifecycle.

The SRM Team embraces modern, low-code approaches, integrating bespoke development when needed, and works closely with stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, and intuitive solutions. Joining our team means contributing to impactful projects that enhance the experiences of both students and staff across the University.

About the Role

In this role, you will support and enhance existing digital solutions while developing new functionality within our Dynamics 365 and Power Platform ecosystem. Working within an agile and test-driven (TDD) development environment, you’ll contribute to the adoption of modern development practices.

Partnering with a highly collaborative team, you will have the opportunity to work with Microsoft and Azure cloud technologies, expanding your skill set while contributing to new and dynamic projects aligned with the University’s vision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and support applications, services, and solutions within the SRM team to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and security.
  • Lead the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of advanced customisations, integrations, and extensions for Microsoft Dynamics 365 and the Power Platform.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders and agile teams, translating functional requirements into effective and practical technical solutions.
  • Apply modern engineering practices, including CI/CD (via Azure DevOps), solution version control, automated testing, and comprehensive documentation.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues across environments using tools like Plugin Trace Logs, XrmToolBox diagnostics, and Azure Application Insights.
  • Ensure alignment with Microsoft best practices, Power Platform governance protocols, and enterprise architectural standards.

Key Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Proven expertise with Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Microsoft Power Platform.
  • Hands-on experience delivering CE/CRM development projects.
  • Proficiency in web technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Working knowledge of SQL Server and/or Oracle databases.
  • Understanding of Microsoft Azure’s capabilities.

Desirable:

  • Experience integrating 3rd-party or internal APIs into Power Automate solutions.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint for document storage.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office development.
  • Hands-on experience with Dynamics 365 plugins.
  • Experience with tools like JIRA and Confluence.
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies.
