About the Department

The Software Engineering department within IT&D oversees the development, support, maintenance, and administration of approved software applications across Manchester Metropolitan University. These applications span a diverse digital portfolio, covering Campus Experience, Digital Workplace, Education, Finance, and the Student Lifecycle.
We operate on a hybrid working model, with the team coming together on-campus every Thursday for a designated “anchor day.”

About the Team

The Student Relationship Management (SRM) Team plays a pivotal role in transforming how the University interacts with prospective and current students while engaging with key services throughout the student journey. Leveraging Microsoft Dynamics 365, the Power Platform, and related Microsoft technologies, we design and implement innovative solutions that streamline processes and enhance user experiences.

Our work supports vital functions such as Recruitment and Admissions, Student Services, and several Professional Services directorates. Whether it’s optimizing enquiry handling, simplifying applications, improving case management, or boosting student engagement, our solutions empower staff and students alike by fostering efficiency and accessibility.

We champion modern, low-code approaches, supplemented by custom development when needed, and work closely with stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure, and user-friendly digital services. About the Role

In this role, you’ll contribute to the support and enhancement of existing systems while developing new functionality using Dynamics 365 and Power Platform technologies. Part of an agile team, you’ll engage in test-first development (TDD) and modern engineering practices, utilizing both custom-built applications and third-party solutions primarily hosted on Microsoft and Azure cloud platforms.

Key Responsibilities

As part of the team, your role will involve:

  • Developing, maintaining, and supporting applications, solutions, and services within the SRM remit to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and security.
  • Leading the design, development, delivery, and maintenance of advanced customizations and integrations within Microsoft Dynamics 365 and the Power Platform.
  • Collaborating with business stakeholders and agile teams to translate functional requirements into effective technical solutions.
  • Adopting established engineering practices including CI/CD with Azure DevOps, solution versioning, automated testing, and comprehensive documentation.
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting issues across environments using tools like Plugin Trace Logs, XrmToolBox diagnostics, and Azure Application Insights.
  • Ensuring all solutions adhere to Microsoft best practices, Power Platform governance, and enterprise architecture standards.

Key Skills and Experience

We’re looking for candidates with:
Essential Skills:

  • Strong expertise in Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Microsoft Power Platform.
  • Hands-on experience with CE/CRM development projects.
  • Proficiency in Web standards such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Knowledge of SQL Server and/or Oracle databases.
  • Understanding of Microsoft Azure.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience integrating APIs within Power Automate solutions.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint for document management.
  • MS Office development capabilities.
  • Dynamics 365 Plugins expertise.
  • Experience collaborating through platforms like JIRA and Confluence.
  • Working knowledge of agile development methodologies.
