The Role and the Department
Durham University’s Computing and Information Services (CIS) is a vital department with an annual operational budget exceeding £12 million, multi-million pound programmes of change in progress, and a team of approximately 185 staff. Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), the Senior Leadership Team oversees distinct portfolios, including Strategy and Change, Operations, Information Systems, and Cyber Security.

Key Responsibilities:
The primary focus of this role is on IT Asset Management, and the post-holder will be accountable for:
- Maintaining and enhancing IT asset management processes, including tracking assets.
- Managing the full lifecycle of software assets, encompassing planning, requests, procurement, approval, deployment, operation/licensing, and eventual retirement.
- Overseeing procedures related to the university’s software licensing management.
- Keeping accurate records of IT assets and renewals, including supervising the hardware asset management policy in collaboration with End User Compute and Platforms teams.
- Developing and maintaining software standards and a comprehensive university-wide software catalogue.
- Forecasting and managing the software budget.
