Seeking Cloud-Enthusiastic Technician for a University’s IT Team

Position Overview:
Join our university’s server and storage team in a secure, full-time position, where your role will shift increasingly towards cloud-based operations as we embark on our migration to AWS. The team you’ll be part of oversees both the university’s data centers and its cloud infrastructure. We are on the hunt for a self-driven technician who thrives when working on projects autonomously and is eager to embrace cloud technology training, necessary for this role. While a move to the cloud is on the horizon, you’ll also continue to oversee our on-site server operations for the immediate and foreseeable future.

For a comprehensive list of responsibilities, take a look at the Job Description found via the ‘Apply’ button on the university’s career page. The new team member will take over from a departing Windows systems administrator and should have comparable or related expertise.

About You:
You are embarking on your cloud technology journey—prior experience is a plus, but not a requirement as we provide training and development for our staff. This position is a great fit for someone keen on gaining cloud expertise and handling day-to-day operations.

We value candidates who are confident in working independently, managing project responsibilities, and communicating effectively with various service owners throughout the university. Strong communication skills are a key asset to this role. The job description may list assorted skills, but proficiency in Windows systems and a keenness toward cloud systems are critical. A background in data centers, hardware, automation, and understanding VMWare will serve as a bonus.

Directorate/Framework:
Be at the cutting edge of digital innovation with Information and Technology Services, delivering and maintaining digital services and facilities vital for the academic and administrative pursuits of the university. Our team is dedicated to driving innovation, implementing, and supporting diverse digital services to help the university community succeed.

Our staff engage fully with sustainability initiatives and uphold a strong culture of stellar customer service and ongoing refinement.

Additional Information:
We offer a full-time, permanent opportunity with an initial salary of £43,187 per annum. Expect interviews to occur on the week starting 29th April 2024. For any informal inquiries, reach out to Raj Desai, Technical Platforms Manager.

Join Kingston University’s inclusive and diverse community, where authenticity and a sense of belonging fuel our collective identity. We particularly encourage applicants from Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, LGBTQ communities, and those with disabilities.

Prospective candidates must comply with the UK’s Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. As needed, this could involve entry clearance or valid leave to remain under the Point-Based Immigration Scheme.
