About EPrints Services

Thanks to our ongoing success, we are expanding our team by hiring for a Software Engineering / Customer Support role.

At EPrints Services, we specialise in developing and maintaining web-based repository solutions for a diverse range of educational and commercial organisations around the world.

At the heart of our work is EPrints, an open-source repository platform that offers a highly adaptable framework for data capture, structure, and presentation. This platform also supports a wide range of services enabling convenient and flexible content access. Additionally, we assist our customers by managing a Linux-based virtual hosting environment.

We are a well-established small enterprise team housed within the School of Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton.


About You

As a valued team member, you will take the lead on developing and supporting customer-focused projects. This includes work on EPrints systems as well as broader engineering tasks tied to open access, open data, digital education, content management, and systems integrations. These projects often involve design, programming, testing, project management, and direct customer support.

Essential Requirements:

  • Significant industrial experience or,
  • A PhD (or equivalent professional qualifications and experience) in Computer Science or a related discipline.

Additional Skills:

  • Familiarity with Linux systems.
  • Understanding of web-relevant technologies such as XML, SQL, JavaScript, and CSS.
  • Proficiency in high-level programming languages like Python, PHP, or Perl is highly desirable.

This is a full-time fixed-term role offered initially for two years. Contracts are typically extended on a rolling two-year basis.
