Birmingham City University stands as a thriving institution of higher learning, nestled in the bustling center of a lively city. We’re currently seeking a dedicated individual to take on the role of Student Systems Development Analysis Manager as part of our proactive team within the recently established Directorate of Student and Academic Services. This Directorate plays a pivotal role in fostering an exceptional student experience and oversees a wide range of services that span the entire journey of our students, from admission to graduation, and includes essential support such as wellbeing initiatives and the meticulous set-up of new academic courses. This position is particularly well-suited for a seasoned manager with a deep understanding and hands-on experience in systems (primarily using SITS, e:Vision as the main student records system) and systems development. A key part of the job is the ability to effectively communicate with various stakeholders to ensure that system development needs are captured and implemented accurately and to manage multifaceted projects efficiently. Within Delivery Services, this role will report to the Head of Student Systems and Records and will demand leadership skills to both inspire a team and formulate strong interdepartmental collaborations, all while delivering outcomes in line with defined timelines and adapting to the ever-changing needs of the business. The successful appointee will take the helm for all developments in student systems throughout the students’ tenure at the university. He or she will be an authority on the student lifecycle and the advancement of core student systems from configuration and building phases, ensuring requirements are precisely recorded and articulated through formal specifications. This will require a cooperative approach with stakeholders to guarantee the end solution is aptly suited for its purpose. They will also take the lead on coding, system testing, unit testing, and facilitating user acceptance testing with end-users.
The chosen candidate will normally be appointed through BCU Support Services Limited, our fully owned subsidiary company. For those with prior LGPS membership wishing to enter the LGPS scheme, employment will be directly through Birmingham City University.
