Position Opening at Birmingham City University: Team Leader for Student Systems Maintenance

Birmingham City University, situated in the dynamic heart of a bustling metropolitan area, is an institution characterized by its expansive and diverse academic community. We are thrilled to announce a new opening for the role of Team Leader in Student Systems Maintenance, a position that is part of the recently established Directorate of Student and Academic Services. This directorate is devoted to delivering an outstanding experience to students, supporting them through all phases of their academic journey, from enrollment all the way to graduation. The spectrum of services includes wellbeing initiatives and the implementation of new academic programs. We are seeking a seasoned team leader or manager with expertise in managing SITS and e:Vision systems, focused on maintaining system reliability and efficiency through vigilant management and assistance within an annual maintenance framework.

About the Position:

As a member of the Delivery Services team, you will report to the Student Systems Manager. Responsibilities include leading and motivating a talented team, fostering collaborative interdepartmental relationships, executing scheduled plans with adaptability to address shifting business needs.

The responsibilities for this role consist of leading a team responsible for the ongoing maintenance of the SITS student records system, developing and testing enhancements to the student systems, which also encompass SITS and e:Vision, always considering data integrity, user needs, system accessibility, and long-term maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:

– Lead and direct a team of Student System Maintenance Coordinators, and implement the operational plan.
– Monitor the performance and resilience of the student systems.
– Coordinate with technical support to troubleshoot issues and limit downtime.
– Supervise batch and automated system procedures to align with the academic cycle.
– Support system integration efforts.
– Develop team members to ensure service delivery for areas like SRL’s.
– Provide immediate technical support, oversee issue resolution, and delegate tasks within the team as needed.
– Propose and enforce enhancements to business processes and student systems.
– Document system configurations and standard operating procedures.
– Fulfil service level agreements/standards.
– Support colleagues with system-related inquiries.
– Collaborate with key stakeholders and service groups, like IT, to ensure responsibilities are met.
– Address complex issues as needed.
– Become a subject-matter expert in systems maintenance and SITS.
– Generate reports and summaries related to service agreements and important business metrics.
– Occasionally stand in for the Student Systems Manager.

Key Qualifications:

– Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience and expertise.
– Proficiency in a corporate student record system, namely SITS and e:Vision.
– Familiarity with coding and SRL development.
– Relevant work experience, preferably in the higher education sector.
– Strong numerical and literacy abilities.
– Advanced written and verbal communication skills tailored to various audiences, including report writing.
– Exceptional organizational skills, with an ability to prioritize and tackle operational challenges on short notice.
– Comfort in engaging with staff across different organizational levels.
– Dedication to client-focused service delivery.
– Analytical problem-solving capabilities with a systematic approach.
– Ability to converse about technical concepts with diverse groups, from non-technical stakeholders to experts.

The appointed individual will ordinarily join BCU Support Services Limited, a fully owned subsidiary of Birmingham City University. Candidates with existing LGPS membership seeking enrollment in the pension scheme will be directly employed by the university.
