The new Centre for Digital Data Research brings together cross-disciplinary academic expertise, technical proficiency, and advanced computing resources to facilitate research at scale. From processing vast and complex datasets to training and deploying cutting-edge AI models, the Centre will drive impactful innovation across diverse fields.
The Role
We’re seeking a Research Statistician to take a critical role in analysing and validating data using robust methodologies. As a Research Statistician, you will collaborate closely with researchers, technical teams in Technical Services, and colleagues in IT & Digital, ensuring research projects receive expert data analytics support. Through your work, you’ll contribute directly to the University’s ambition of becoming a leader in digital and data-driven research.

We are offering this appointment as one of two roles based on skills and experience:
- Technical Specialist (Research Statistics) – Grade 7: £35,116 – £39,355
- Research Technical Professional (Research Statistics) – Grade 8: £40,497 – £46,735
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimise methodologies to detect patterns, interpret data, and address research questions effectively.
- Collaborate with researchers, software engineers, Technical Services, and IT teams to provide statistical analysis for large and complex datasets, enabling impactful research contributions.
- Ensure adherence to data ethics, privacy regulations, and responsible research practices.
- Perform tasks such as data cleaning, handling missing values, and preparing data for analysis.
- Champion best practices in data security, governance, and the handling of large datasets.
- Contribute to strategic planning efforts, ensuring alignment with the University’s digital research goals.
- Have a working understanding of Linux operating systems.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Demonstrable expertise in statistical data design, analysis, and visualisation.
- Strong knowledge of modern statistical methodologies, as well as experimental design and power analysis.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as R and Python.
- Proven commitment to data security, governance, and the analysis of large-scale datasets.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical teams, researchers, and broader stakeholder groups to deliver impactful solutions.
