Position Overview:

Reporting directly to the Chief Digital and Information Officer (CDIO), you will lead the strategic and operational management of the University’s Library and Archive Services. This diverse portfolio encompasses library and IT enquiry services, helpdesk support, copyright compliance, information licensing, digital scholarship, open research initiatives, and publishing.

The University is looking to appoint an experienced and forward-thinking leader who excels in strategic planning and innovation. As the driving force behind the ongoing development of the Library and Information Resources (LIR) services and facilities, your work will support the University’s research, teaching, and learning agendas. The Library Services integrate support functions for both library and IT, with operational areas holding Customer Service Excellence (CSE) accreditation since 2019.

Key Responsibilities:
Candidates should bring a proven record of delivering impactful library services for research, learning, and knowledge exchange. Strong financial planning and management capabilities are required, alongside an in-depth understanding of contractual and licensing frameworks in information procurement. The successful candidate will leverage innovative thinking, collaboration, and effective communication to lead change management initiatives that align with and advance the University’s Strategy 2030 objectives.

About the Library and Information Resources Service (LIR):
The LIR Service is a vital partner at every stage of the research and scholarship lifecycle, encompassing planning, discovery, knowledge mobilisation, and publication. We provide dynamic physical and virtual environments for learning, creativity, and collaboration, engaging students, staff, and the wider community. Renowned for our leadership in Open Access, cutting-edge technology, and excellent user services (both in-person and online), the LIR Service has held full Customer Service Excellence (CSE) accreditation since 2019. Serving a diverse student population across both domestic and international locations, the Service is supported by a dedicated team of approximately 100 staff members and operates with an annual non-staff budget of £4.5 million. Our collections reflect the broad spectrum of academic disciplines taught at the University.
