The University Library, a central feature and the heart of the UM campus, is an illustrious edifice covering 30,000 square meters, with seating for 3,000 patrons and a repository for over a million volumes of physical books. With its 40-year legacy, it stands as Macao’s largest library, boasting a collection exceeding 12 million items, including books, periodicals, audio-visual materials, artworks, antiques, microfilms, and more. As the University Librarian, one oversees the comprehensive operations and administration of the University Library. Reporting directly to the Vice Rector (Global Affairs), responsibilities include shaping the library’s strategic direction, resource and facility management, policy oversight, digital transformation of services, scholarly contributions in librarianship, curating historical collections, staff and budget oversight, and fostering regional and international library collaborations.
Ideal candidates should possess:
– A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Library Science or related fields, with a strong preference for a PhD degree;
– A minimum of 10 years substantial experience in library management or a related scholarly capacity;
– Expertise in integrating IT solutions into library services;
– Proven leadership in overseeing a major academic library and familiarity with library consortium operations, well-established within the library community regionally and globally;
– Strong administration and management skills, exceptional communication abilities, problem-solving aptitude, and a capacity for innovative and analytical thinking;
– Fluency in English and Chinese, with proficiency in Portuguese as an added benefit.
Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, with a very competitive tax rate effectively between 5%-7%, inclusive of numerous benefits such as medical insurance, a provident fund, and housing support.
