Our Institution:

BU London and Study Abroad constitutes a segment of Boston University’s Global Programmes, annually accommodating approximately 1,200 students hailing from BU as well as other American institutions of higher education.

Position Summary:

The Writing Centre strives to nurture the confidence of our students as writers, honing their written communication abilities in a nurturing, student-oriented atmosphere. Writing Fellows are tasked with supporting students across all academic levels and fields with a variety of projects, including essays, presentations, and reports.

The role of a Writing Fellow includes scheduling individual 30-minute consultation sessions for undergraduate students, both on-site and virtually via Zoom. Writing Fellows are also expected to provide ad hoc assistance during open drop-in sessions, both in-person and remotely, which necessitates adaptability to cater effectively to the needs of all BU London students. The Writing Centre, located within BU London Library, aims to augment the students’ academic pursuits and internship schedules, with evening availability up to 8 PM for in-person consultations and 9 PM for remote support being a fundamental aspect of this role.

Key Duties:

Responsibilities of this position encompass but are not limited to:

– Enhancing clarity, structure, and argumentation in writing
– Facilitating idea exchanges and initial concept discussions
– Advising on time management and organizational skills
– Assisting with the outlining of preliminary ideas
– Guidance on the presentation and integration of evidence and quotations
– Support with draft revisions and revising strategies
– Refining of writing style and voice
– Guidance on proper citation to avoid plagiarism, along with editing and self-proofreading techniques
