Assistant Librarian (1-Year Fixed Term Contract)
Full-Time Role: 36.25 hours per week

Magdalene College, one of the most picturesque colleges in Cambridge, is renowned for its stunning architecture and unique character. Located near the heart of Cambridge, Magdalene boasts the longest river frontage of all the Cambridge colleges, offering a tranquil yet centrally accessible environment.

The College is seeking to appoint an Assistant Librarian to join its welcoming and supportive Library team. Working closely with the Student Services Librarian, you will play a key role in the day-to-day management of the College Library, step in when the Student Services Librarian is absent, and assist in supervising the Graduate Trainee Librarian. Our Library department includes the award-winning New Library (opened in 2022), which also houses the Archive and a Gallery, alongside the historic Old Library and the renowned Pepys Library.

This is a 1-year fixed-term maternity cover role, concluding after one year or upon the return of the postholder. The role is ideal for an experienced professional librarian who has carried out a variety of library duties and is ready to contribute to the development of our rich library services. Candidates close to completing a relevant postgraduate qualification will also be considered.

The successful applicant must be available to commence in August or September 2026. This full-time position offers a salary of up to £30,116 per annum (subject to a cost-of-living increase) along with an excellent benefits package, including:

  • Group Life Assurance
  • Help@hand Portal, which provides access to remote GP appointments, medical second opinions, savings and discounts, financial support, and more
  • Wellbeing classes, such as Pilates and yoga
  • Annual flu vaccinations
  • Generous College pension contributions of up to 12%
  • Eye care benefits via Specsavers
