About Us
The University of East London (UEL) Library, Archives, and Learning Services is seeking a proactive and dedicated Assistant Librarian to join our Scholarly Communications team. Working closely with our Scholarly Communications Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in delivering valuable Open Access services and providing vital support and expertise to the UEL research community.

Library, Archives, and Learning Services (LALS) offers a diverse, user-centric environment dedicated to empowering our stakeholders through the transformative power of knowledge. With two vibrant campus libraries, a wealth of digital resources, and a portfolio of services, our vision is to equip students, researchers, and staff to seize tomorrow’s opportunities and achieve success in their academic, professional, and personal journeys.

We are focused on delivering an outstanding customer experience, continuously enhancing our services through feedback and informed insights, and embedding inclusivity, equality, and diversity across everything we do.

About the Role
As an integral member of the Scholarly Communications team, you’ll manage UEL’s Research Repository for scholarly outputs, ensuring compliance with copyright laws, publisher requirements, and key deadlines. You’ll also provide training and tailored assistance for Open Access, supporting UEL’s policies as well as external requirements, and playing a crucial role in preparing for REF2029.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with the Scholarly Communications Manager, Academic Services Librarians, and the Research Excellence team to promote the repository and raise awareness of Open Access compliance across UEL.
  • Contributing to the ongoing development of repository functionality and supporting enhancements to the broader Research Management System.
  • Managing the administration and records for Transformative Agreements and Article Processing Charges, including processing funding requests and generating regular usage reports.

About You
We’re looking for a candidate with a strong understanding of Open Access principles and familiarity with the wider scholarly publishing environment. You’ll be someone who proactively takes initiative, works effectively both independently and collaboratively, and seeks input when necessary. Commitment to delivering exceptional customer service is core to this role, as is the ability to leverage advocacy, presentation, and digital skills to support our diverse UEL community.

To thrive in this position, you’ll need to stay updated on evolving policies and deepen your knowledge of Open Research. We welcome applications from those with relevant experience in areas such as scholarly communications, library and information services, archives, records management, or related fields.
